🧵 What Are Beeswax Wraps?
Beeswax wraps are a natural alternative to plastic wrap, made by infusing cotton fabric with beeswax and optional ingredients like pine resin and jojoba oil. They’re pliable, reusable, and completely biodegradable—making them a staple in any zero waste kitchen.
✂️ What You’ll Need
- 100% cotton fabric (old clothing or scraps work great!)
- Beeswax pellets or grated beeswax
- (Optional) Pine resin & jojoba oil for flexibility
- Scissors (pinking shears for fun edges)
- Baking paper
- Iron
🧼 How to Make DIY Beeswax Wraps
- Cut your fabric: Choose sizes based on how you’ll use them. A variety makes life easier!
- Layer it: Place baking paper on your ironing board, then fabric, then sprinkle beeswax over the cloth. Add optional ingredients for extra cling.
- Iron it out: Place another sheet of baking paper over top and gently press with a medium-heat iron. The wax will melt and evenly saturate the fabric.
- Cool it down: Gently lift the wrap and air it out until firm.
- Use again & again: Simply mold it with your hands around jars, food, or bowls.
♻️ Care & Longevity
Wash with cool water and mild soap, and let air dry. These wraps last about 6–12 months and can be re-waxed as needed. Once they wear out, compost them—no waste left behind.
🌍 Why It Matters: A Small Swap With Big Impact
Every time you use a reusable beeswax wrap, you’re avoiding single-use plastics that often end up in landfills or oceans. It’s a simple yet powerful step toward a low-waste lifestyle.
